KHALED HOSSEINI

Hello Everyone!

Today is all about an amazing author.I have recently been reading some of Khaled Hosseini's books and they are so incredible and different to any other books I have ever read! His books are not only set in Kabul, his childhood home, but share the experiences of the different types of families that would have lived there during the time of which the Taliban ruled Afghanistan. I have read: And the mountains echoed, the kite runner and a thousand splendid suns.

AND THE MOUNTAINS ECHOED:

This book is a moving story about different families living in Afghanistan. The book is originally about Pari and her brother Abdullah and how they are separated through a terrible journey to Kabul. Pari is sent to a rich couple's home where her uncle works, as her real family cannot afford to look after her and her own mother is dead. Here as only a toddler, she begins her life again with two strangers who she soon comes to call her parents. The couple she lives with are unhappy, and they don't love one another. Once the father becomes ill, she is sent to Paris with her mother and here she lives till she is an old woman. At the end of the book, she finds out about her real identity and finally meets Abdullah and all her long lost relatives.

This book although incredible, can be sometimes hard to understand what is happening as the chapters switch between characters without telling you who they are. But stick with this book and keep reading as when you come to the end, you will realise how truly amazing this story really is.

THE KITE RUNNER:

One of the best books I have ever read In my life. This book is so sad and yet so unbelievably amazing. The Kite runner speaks of two boys growing up in Kabul and how they turn out to be unlikely friends. Through the hardship that they face, and the differences in their lives, one day, one event changes everything between them ...

Amir, the narrator of the story and the richer of the two boys, moves to America with his Baba and never sees Hassan, his slave friend, again. He marries and lives pleasantly with his wife, however he never has children. When Baba dies, he receives a letter from an old friend about Hassan, he goes to Kabul, which he left amidst the Afghani war and finds it completely changed. He realises that Hassan has had a son and after finding out what has happened to Hassan, he feels shocked and enraged. He decides to risk everything to save Hassan's son from what he didn't save Hassan from all those years ago.

A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS:

The first book I read by Khaled Hosseini, and it seriously impressed me. I learnt so much about families who lived during the war and the hardship they had to endure. Two families living down the road suddenly become so involved with one another. Laila and Mariam, both the narrators of the story suddenly become to have to be forced to live one another and through those hard years, are forced to become friends.

This book is absolutely incredible, and as are all the books Khaled Hosseini has written, I would recommend every single one of them.

Thank you for reading this! I really hope you read some of Khaled's books if you haven't already, they teach you so much about the history of Afghanistan and also the lives of those who lived there and how they were treated.
