Hello!
Thank you for returning to my blog! Today I am going to be writing about one of my favourite places to travel to and explore in the UK! I will be doing a variety of blogs on different places, and so I hope these blogs enlighten you more about these places and maybe even make you want to visit! These blogs will be posted over the course of two or three weeks so I hope you enjoy them!
So firstly, I am going to write about Oxford. Now Oxford is a city in the South East Region of England and is 57 miles away from London. I went there with my family for a day trip recently, and decided I would like to write a blog about Oxford as usually my blogs on travel are based in European or foreign countries. If you would like to read one of my other travel blogs then please just click on the category of 'travel' at the top of the blog, as this will take you to other blogs with the same heading!
So firstly, when we arrived in Oxford, we went to the Ashmolean museum, which I found really interesting. There is a great rooftop restaurant there which I really enjoyed having afternoon tea in. This restaurant gave out an amazing scenic view of the city and I was lucky enough to watch a hot air balloon setting off into the sky, from where I was sitting! Not only is the location great, but the food and service is also formidable! I would recommend visiting in the Summer though as when we went it was generally very cold and so we could not go outside onto the balcony section where you can see more of Oxford. Additionally, the museum is one of the oldest public museums in Britain, it was established in 1683! It is also one of the oldest museums in the world!
Next, we went to the amazing Pitt Rivers Museum with some friends. The museum is so interesting and is one of Oxford's most popular attractions! It is famous for its many collections from different cultures around the world. The museum is very large and boasts over half a million objects from around the world! It is also great for children and holds many activities for them to do, with small rewards as well! I would definitely recommend visiting - especially as it is free entry!
We then also looked around many of the colleges in Oxford, such as: Trinity college, Christ Church and Magdalen college. It was so interesting to look around some of the grounds and to explore the inside of the colleges. I especially enjoyed looking around Christ Church's dining room which was extremely impressive!
After going around some of the colleges, we ended our day in Oxford by looking at the Bridge of Sighs, which connects the main buildings at Hertford College together. It was built in 1913-1914 and is very impressive! I would recommend if you are close by, you go and take a look at it, as it is quite easy to find but very beautiful and renowned!
